A roller coaster of a weekend starting with "Belargus" running at Cheltenham on Saturday in the Paddy Power with Niall Houlihan on boards. Unfortunately Belargus took an over exuberant jump at the first fence and did not get his landing gear out in time. Both horse and jockey are fine and live to fight another day. Belargus is entered at Ascot on Saturday but with no rain forecast is unlikely to run.
Today we had three runners, The Mighty Don ran at Cheltenham in the 31/2 mile handicap chase with Niall on board. Well miraculously he finished 2nd but it wasn't an easy watch. Donald left a hind leg in the water jump and nearly lost Niall, a great recovery and then he ran a cracker to finish second. He just met the last all wrong and lost momentum. Well Done to The Golden Rose Partnership and Team Gifford. Congratulations to Ella Garland who led up Donald today and plaited him up. It was Ellas first time at Cheltenham and Ella and Andrew won Best turned out !!
We also had two runners at Plumpton. Cobbs Corner ran well enough, he was jumping left a bit and we are going to get him a physio session this week as he may have just tweaked something. He will now get a handicap mark. He ran well for. along time just got very tired in the closing stages. They did set off at a proper gallop with the lead horse trying to make it a true test.
Last but not least we had "Rose of Aghaboe" running in the Southern National, what a tough little mare she is. She was flat out all the way, overall jumped well and then ran on to finish 4th under Tabitha Worsley. This mare always gives her all. perhaps a bigger galloping track suits her best. Well done to The Rose tinted Partnership.
Tomorrow we are at Plumpton with one runner in the 3.45pm 3mile 2 handicap hurdle. She is on great form at home and should love the ground. Jungle Prose for The Nick Gifford Racing club with Tabitha Worsley on board. Good Luck Bonnie. Andrew Veale will be taking Jungle prose to the races and will lead her up.
