18th November- Stable News

A very wet grey day at Cheltenham.

The Mighty Don ran in the 2mile 5 intermediate hurdle at Cheltenham.  He was ridded by the champion jockey Richard Johnson.  Unfortunately the rain really came and also Cheltenham had been watering for weeks before so the ground turned to soft , heavy in places and was very very loose.  The Mighty Don skips over the ground at home and all his best form is on good or good to soft.  He is still a green , unfurnished 5 year old with plenty of ability but just needs more experience .  Dickie was very positive about him, saying he has plenty of ability, he ran very green early on, his jumping is still quite green and he is just not yet mentally ready to cope with the hurly burly of being on the rail or in the thick of it.  Which we knew, profile wise he is a bit like Notre Ami and just needs a bit more time than other horse.  So we will keep running him, definitely on better ground and he will keep improving.  He finished 8th out of 16 and was certainly not disgraced.  We know he is a very nice horse.  Andrew Tony Veale our head lad led him up and he looked amazing as always.  His owners Louise and Lucy came away with many positives.

We have one runner at Fontwell on the 19th November, Project Mars is running in the first and will be ridden by leighton Aspel.  He is badly handicapped and he is one to watch for today.  Just looking for a clean round of jumping and a positive run, staying on at the end.
