So it feels like it has been raining , wet and waterlogged everywhere for soon long.  At last , it is so refreshing to have a break in the weather and some beautiful sunshine.  Long may it continue.  We had two runners today at Sandown on The Royal Artilliary Gold Cup Day.

Paddy’s Poem ran in the first race, which was a the Smarkets Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle(Class 4) (0-120, 4yo+) (1m7f216yds) 2m Heavy 8 hurdles where he was ridden by Bryony Frost.  He led most of the way and was pulling strongly and weakened very quickly two out.  It was his first disappointing run for us.  He ran keen and free and mentally still has to learn and needs to settle better.  It was a race we will put a line through and give him a good check over at home and a break before he runs again.  You would normally be expecting him to do his best work at the end and today it did not happen.  The ground was starting to dry out a little bit and was testing in places and may be that also did suit him.  He is a stunning horse as you will see from the photos and we have a lot to look forward to him for the future.  This year is all about education as he is every inch a chaser.

Our second runner was ” Notre Ami” in the Smarkets “National Hunt” Novices’ Hurdle (Class 4) (4yo+) (1m7f216yds) 2m Heavy 8 hurdles.  ” Notre Ami” was ridden by Leighton Aspell and he got him to settle very quickly which is the key to him as he can be very buzzy and pull.  He tracked the leader and then led after 3 out , leighton started to ride after two out and he kept on well from the last beating the odds on favourite.  To be honest his win was a surprise , we thought he might struggle a bit with the ground , and hoped he would be placed.  So it is amazing to have a winner for the boys.  ” “The Morpheus Partnership”.  We hope he will now go for the EBF final on the 10th March back at Sandown.
