Getting ready for the Season Ahead !!!

So another glorious sunny day in Findon today, after a fresh start the day really warmed up.  The horses love the last bit of sun on their backs before we go in to Autumn/Winter.

Today we started work on our all weather gallops.  We are lucky to have a seven and a half furlong all weather gallop on a gradual incline that gives an excellent training facility for the racehorses , especially in winter when the various grass gallops we have may be firm.

Tina Cook ( Nicks Sister Olympic Medal Winning 3 Day Event Rider) also uses the all weather gallops to train her Top Class Event Horses on all year round.

We were initially looking at possibly replacing the all weather gallop surface with a carpet fibre gallop surface which seems to be the new preferred surface as it is a more cost effective than the sand/rubber/wax gallops that a lot ( like us ) are using today.  However after getting different experts advice ( including from “Leisure ride”, who do the “Trojon Track Carpet Surface” )  it transpires that the actual surface we have is absolutely fine and does not need replacing.  Just as Nick suspected it just needs wax running through it again to prolong the life of the gallop and the surface needs levelling out. It has moved over the last few years because of the camber of the gallop so we are just ensuring that the gallop is the same depth all away across.  We are also replacing the membrane in a few places under the surface.

So for the next few days the horses will be using our grass gallops to exercise on , which all have plenty of grass coverage on.
