So yesterday “The Mighty Don” ran a cracker to finish 5th out of 20 runners in the 14 Apr 2018 Gaskells Handicap Hurdle (Grade 3)(Class 1) (4yo+) (3m149yds) 3m½f Soft 13 hurdles at Aintree on ground that would not suit him.  He jumped really well on the whole ( just two little mistakes) and travelled really well throughout the race , given a great ride by Tom Cannon.  Our head lad Andrew Tony Veale led him up and turned him out to his usual very high standard.  He just missed out on 4th place.  He is a truly remarkable quality horse who is by no means the finished article.  This season he has run very respectable races at both our big festivals on testing unsuitable ground.  We have taken our time with him and he still has a lot of filling out and strengthening up to do.  Today he is having a very well deserved rest in the paddock and enjoying the first pick of the Spring grass.

He will slowly start to wind down over the next month, but will do a bit of schooling over fences with him and we will concentrate on a bit of flat work and hill work to strengthen him up before he goes out for his six week summer holiday.  The plan being to go Novice Chasing next season.

The way the horses are looked after at Aintree post race is amazing, the cooling fans that spritz out cold water and air went down a treat with Donald.   He loved it.  Well done to all connections and Team Gifford.  It has been a great journey so far with “The Mighty Don” and the “Golden Rose Partnership”  and we all certainly have a lot to look forward to with his future career.  He ate up all his dinner last night and is sound as a pound today.

Later on we have two runners at Plumpton.    We have “Puppet Warrior” running in the 3:20 Plumpton 15 APR 2018 ATR 2m4½f (2m4f114y) Premier League Betting At 188Bet Handicap Hurdle (Class 3) (4yo+ 0-125).  He is a tough consistent little horse that has been second many times.  We are looking for a good run today.     Puppet Warrior will be ridden by Nick Schofield.

We then have “Black lightning” running in the 5:30 Plumpton 15 APR 2018 ATR2m1½f (2m1f164y) 188Bet Live Casino Intermediate Open National Hunt Flat Race (Class 5) (4-6yo).   This will be his third run for us.  He is a stunning horse and we look forward to seeing him on the track.  he ran very well in his first bumper and then the second bumper they went no pace and then it turned in to a sprint on unsuitable ground.  So we are looking for a positive run today.  Black Lightning will be ridden by Jamie Davies.  The ground is given as good , good to soft in places.

Good luck to both horses and all connections.
